Gilbane Building Company Donates Bikes to CASA for Children in Foster Care

DSC_0298DSC_0333DSC_0347DSC_0340DSC_0355DSC_0363DSC_0367Gilbane Building Company hosted their first company charity bike build at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel & Convention Center on Tuesday, June 9, 2015. The event was a community impact effort, with 70 of the company’s Executive Management staff forming 20 teams and turning the wrenches themselves to build more than 65 bikes. The bikes were then donated to disadvantaged children in the community through CASA Child Advocates of Montgomery County and Interfaith Ministries of The Woodlands.

CASA Child Advocates of Montgomery County plans to use the bikes for their 2016 Annual Bike Rodeo for area children in foster care. Bicycle rodeos are a fun way to introduce younger riders to basic safety skills and further educate older children to more advanced safety and handling skills. Bike rodeos teach children the importance of seeing, being seen, and remaining in control of the bike at all times, which is accomplished through bicycle handling drills and activities. This will be the 3rd year for the CASA event, and Executive Director, Ann McAlpin, says next year’s event looks to be the best one yet. “Gilbane Building Company has truly done something great today.” McAlpin continues, “At our 2016 Bike Rodeo, we will be able to give new bicycles and helmets to 30 children in foster care who may have never had their very own bike before.”

Gilbane Building Company is most often associated with strengthening their surrounding communities through infrastructure, however, the company maintains their goal is also to strengthen those same communities through volunteerism, corporate giving, and forming meaningful partnerships. Moreover, Gilbane hopes to contribute to the overall quality of life in all of the communities their employees call home through active involvement in many charitable, educational, and local organizations. Whether sharing their resources or professional expertise, Gilbane Building Company encourages all team members to care and to get involved throughout the greater Houston area. In addition to supporting CASA Child Advocates of Montgomery County and Interfaith of The Woodlands, the company is also committed to Habitat for humanity, Gilbane Charity Golf Tournament, YesPREP, among others.
