2019 CASA Advocate Fall Conference

Second annual event sets record attendance

Advpcate Fall ConferenceThe 2nd annual Advocate Fall Conference was held on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Church Project in The Woodlands. More than 170 volunteer Advocates attended the one-day conference.

Conference Topics and Presenters

The conference covered a variety of topics including DFPS Department updates, substance abuse trends in adults and teens in Montgomery County, how to speak to children and strategies for high-adversity conversations, and an update on the Montgomery County courts and effective advocacy in the legal setting. Presenters included Marcella Herrera (DFPS Program Director), Eric Rex (Tri-County Behavioral Healthcare), Rebecca Smith (Counseling Center of Montgomery County), and Sarah Stallberg (Chief CPS Attorney, Montgomery County).

Advocates also participated in TBRI connecting activities, practiced Collaborative Family Engagement Genogram mapping strategies, learned about upcoming CASA events and ways to get involved, were immersed in a new CASA informational video project, and enjoyed the camaraderie of fellow volunteers.
