Happy July! We have a busy summer ahead of us at Child Advocates of Montgomery County. We are officially in our audit period for Texas CASA, which will cover the months of June, July and August. The audit itself will review all our policies and procedures and include interviews with our staff, board members, and community stakeholders. The audit will also review case files to ensure we are compliant with the standards of National and Texas CASA. I appreciate your help in ensuring that children are seen each month while also connecting with parents, caregivers, and CPS monthly, as well as meeting our critical medical, legal, and educational advocacy each quarter. Every piece is so important to provide effective advocacy for children and families. We can’t wait to show Texas CASA our incredible work!

Justice-Involved Youth and GOAL programs become permanent

I’m excited to share that our Justice-Involved Youth and Gaining Opportunities for Achievement and Learning (GOAL) Truancy Advocacy programs are no longer pilots but are now permanent! We continue to grow our knowledge of advocacy in these areas. We’re collecting data that demonstrates the impact of our Advocates on these children and families. We’re grateful for the opportunity to pioneer the way in Texas for these initiatives and the opportunity to serve these children and families. Continued growth in these programs will be contingent upon our ability to recruit volunteers and funding.

Upcoming events

We know that inflation and the economy are putting stress on many of the families we serve. To help those families, we are hosting a back-to-school supply drive to help ensure our children have the supplies they need for the 2024-25 school year. You can order the most-needed items from our Amazon Wish List. School supplies will be available for volunteer Advocates to pick up beginning on Monday, July 15, any time during our office hours: Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Finally, we have some big news to share with you . . . soon. Very soon! I’m thrilled to be able to share it with you in just a few weeks. Our Advocates will be the first to receive the announcement!
