Cornhole Tournament Raises More Than $62,000 for Abused, Neglected Children
Inaugural CASA Cornament benefits children in foster care
CASA Child Advocates of Montgomery County held their first-ever “CASA Cornament”, or cornhole tournament, on Sunday, September 25, 2022. More than 250 tournament players and guests gathered at Southern Star Brewing Company in Conroe for an afternoon of fun and friendly competition.
Presented by Chesmar Homes, the event benefited children in foster care served by CASA Child Advocates of Montgomery County.
While the more than 55 competing teams stepped up and tossed away throughout the afternoon, participants and guests enjoyed live music by the Hoelscher Brothers, delicious food, a silent auction and prize basket bucket game, a Family Fun Area sponsored by Carol Knott Tefft with RE/MAX Integrity The Hometown Team featuring a professional face painter and balloon artist, and most of all, great company and fellowship.
Congratulations to the 2022 CASA Cornament champions – Competitive Bracket: 1st place, Battle of the Bags; 2nd place, Baggin and Braggin; 3rd place, #TeamTachus. Non-competitive Bracket: 1st place, Double Threat; 2nd place, Question Mark; 3rd place, Cheers to 40 Years.
CASA Development Director, Lindsay Miller, and event co-chairs, Carol Knott Tefft and Jeanne Toth, worked for over six months to pull together this inaugural event. Miller, who is also a volunteer CASA Advocate, says planning a new fundraising event brought challenges, but the end result was well worth the effort.
“The time, energy, compassion, and dedication of CASA volunteers is just amazing. They step up to amplify the voices of children whose future is uncertain, and they are making a difference, one child at a time.” Miller explains, “This single event will help CASA provide more than 28 abused and neglected children with Advocates this year.”
Proceeds raised at the cornhole tournament benefit CASA Child Advocates of Montgomery County. It costs approximately $2,000 to provide a volunteer Advocate for one abused or neglected child for one year. In 2021, 282 volunteers served 596 children in Montgomery County – 100% of children in care. Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) speak up for the best interest of children who have been removed from their home and are under the Court’s jurisdiction. CASA’s goal is to continue to provide a court-appointed volunteer to serve as Guardian ad Litem for every child in the foster care system. For the past 30 years, CASA has been training volunteers, raising awareness in the community, and working to stop the cycle of child abuse in Montgomery County.
