Advocate In-Service Training: Understanding Traumatized Children

Solemn GirlPlease join us for our next in-service, “Understanding Traumatized Children,” on Thursday, March 6 from 11am to 1pm at the South County Community Center in The Woodlands (2235 Lake Robbins Drive, Room 109)

PRESENTER:

Beth Powell, LCSW, specializes in Trauma-Informed Care: Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Complex PTSD, Developmental Trauma and Acute Stress. Beth is a licensed clinical social worker, psychotherapist, certified academic educator, neuro-behavioral educator, program consultant, speaker, trainer, and mediator. She has helped families with special needs children for over 30 years. Her practice, In-Family Services, is located in Conroe, TX, just north of the greater Houston Metropolitan area.

TOPIC:

Children are impacted academically, emotionally and neurologically by pre and post birth stress, trauma, neglect and abuse. Traumatized children present with an array of behaviors and can carry diagnoses like ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Pervasive Developmental Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Depression, PTSD, learning disabilities, etc. They may even have undiagnosed sensory processing problems which further hinder their ability to self calm and be in constructive relationships with themselves or others.

Learn more about how to spot traumatized children from one who not only survived her own experience of childhood trauma and abuse but who is also thriving and teaching others how to overcome the “hard place” that they came from.
