GIFT (Guiding Infants, Families and Toddlers) Training

Currently, over 50% of the children CASA Advocates serve are between the ages of 0 and 5 years old. We work with a growing number of teen mothers and young adults who are not equipped to handle the demands of being a parent. The parents we work with often struggle with mental health issues, chemical dependency & poverty. It is also likely that they themselves have suffered from the trauma of abuse.

In an effort to better serve this vulnerable segment of our population, we are initiating “GIFT” (Guiding Infants, Families & Toddlers). GIFT is a proactive program designed to increase Advocate’s knowledge & awareness of the unique needs of infants, families & toddlers. In addition it will provide the Advocate resources for parents when reunification is possible. It will help the Advocate to understand how to obtain appropriate and timely resources appropriate for the child’s developmental level. The ultimate goal of this training is for the Advocate to gain knowledge so that they are able to Advocate for the child’s best interest in court and to assist the family in breaking the cycle of abuse.
