Intro to Educational Advocacy (In-Service)

CASA’S EDUCATION COMMITTEE PRESENTS AN INTRO TO EDUCATIONAL ADVOCACY 

Attendees will hear from Kristy O’Neal (CASA Supervisor/Education Lead) and Pamela Byrne (Education Committee Member).

Kristy will be presenting a basic introduction to educational advocacy.

Topics to include:

  • Defining educational advocacy
  • Step-to-step guide for approaching the child/ren’s school
  • Roles and responsibilities of education-related personnel
  • Educational advocacy for children less than 5
  • Searching the AskTed database

Pam Byrne will follow by addressing the unique needs for children with disabilities within the classroom.

Topics to include:

  • IDEA
  • 504
  • Defining educational acronyms
  • Accommodations/modifications
  • ARD meetings
