Giving Voice to Children in Care and Their Families
By Jenn Engel, Training Manager & CFE Team Lead | TBRI Practitioner
Collaborative Family Engagement (CFE) tools help to engage children in care and their families in a natural conversation to learn their story and to give them voice in identifying the people in their life they consider to be important.
My Three Houses
Here is a real life example of a completed CFE tool, My Three Houses. A child in CPS care was able to draw and voice their worries and concerns, the things that are going well in the present, as well as what they hope to see in their life going forward.
Using CFE Tools
CFE tools are easy to customize by being creative, making them your own, and being resourceful.
CFE tools are completed by the CASA Advocate before scheduled Family Meetings (including Family Group Conferences, Permanency Conferences and Older Youth meetings) for the purpose of planning and making important decisions for the future with the CFE Team. CFE tools can also be attached to court reports.
