#GivingTuesday

Right now, in Montgomery County, 6 abused or neglected children enter the foster care system each week. That is about one child every day.

CASA Child Advocates of Montgomery County needs your help next week on Giving Tuesday to continue to serve every single child in need.

These are real life instances of child abuse where children were removed from their homes, and a CASA Advocate was appointed:

  • A 2-month old boy was brought into the the hospital. X-rays showed multiple skull fractures and rib fractures, and the baby had a black eye and a bruised lip. Physical abuse by an unknown perpetrator, and the baby boy was removed from the home.
  • A newborn baby girl tested positive for opiates in her system. Her mother was ordered to work with drug counselors, but when her daughter was 6 months old, she was arrested for DUI and possession. The young girl was placed into foster care.
  • A 15-year old girl was going through a rough time and was admitted to a psychiatric hospital to get help. When she was ready for release, her parents refused to pick her up, and no family members were willing to take her in.

Who will look out for and speak up for these children?
CASA volunteers do.

CASA volunteers serve as the “eyes and ears” for the judge in child welfare cases. This includes researching each child’s situation and making objective recommendations to help them reclaim their childhoods from abuse and neglect.

CASA volunteers are frequently the only stable presence in these children’s lives as they navigate the foster care system.
Their sole objectives are to represent the best interests of the child, and to help find the child a safe, nurturing, permanent home as quickly as possible.

CASA Child Advocates is currently providing Advocates for 100% of children in need in our county.

It costs about $1,500 to change a child’s life by providing a child with a CASA volunteer for one year.

* $31.50 will provide a child with an Advocate for one week.
* $63 will provide a child with an Advocate for two weeks.
* $126 will provide a child with an Advocate for one month.

Next Tuesday, November 28th, is #GivingTuesday. If you choose to donate next week, I hope you will choose CASA Child Advocates of Montgomery County as the recipient of your generosity. GIVE NOW.

Thank you!
