THE WOODLANDS, Texas (April 24, 2024) – Child Advocates of Montgomery County hosted its “The Sky’s the Limit” Volunteer Appreciation Event at The Peach Orchard in The Woodlands on Thursday, April 11, 2024. As April marks Volunteer Appreciation Month, the organization seized this opportunity to recognize the unwavering commitment of its more than 250 volunteers in support of the county’s most vulnerable children and families.

More than 170 guests gathered to honor the remarkable individuals who make a difference every day. The event was a tribute not only to the volunteer Advocates for children but also to the dedicated members of the various fundraising event committees, event volunteers, the volunteer gardening club, volunteer board members, and other groups and individuals who contribute their time and passion to the cause.

The evening commenced with a cocktail hour in the garden, where volunteers mingled while enjoying live music. As the sun began to set, guests moved inside for dinner and the program.

During the program, attendees reflected on the impact they have collectively made in the lives of children and families in Montgomery County. Following the invocation by former board member and chair James Pung, the 2024 Board Chair Mark Freeman welcomed volunteers and guests. President and CEO Ann Marie Ronsman delivered a moving speech, expressing profound gratitude for the tireless work of all volunteers. Their dedication has illuminated the lives of countless children and families in crisis.

The program took a poignant turn as special awards were presented. Eleven extraordinary volunteers received well-deserved recognition.

  • Cheryl Baehr, Elizabeth Chapman, Pat Fain, Connie McNabb, Catherine Miller, James Pung, Cheryl Sellers, Carol Seltz, and Colleen Waymel were recognized for ten years of outstanding volunteer service.
  • Susan Olver, a steadfast volunteer since 2007, holds the distinction of being the organization’s longest-serving Advocate.
  • Rose Mary Bundscho, a former Advocate and current volunteer, has been a pillar of support since 2006.

The event featured a delectable dinner catered by Communal Table, and Montgomery Bakehouse displayed a stunning assortment of cookies, adding a sweet touch to the evening. Following the program, the musical talents of Jerry Rowell and Jimmie Hunter provided the perfect backdrop as guests danced among the stars.
