The Training Spot: September 2022

new classes introduced in fall

CASA of Montgomery County welcomed 10 new Advocates in August!

One of the key sound bites from our Advocate training is “the heart of every element of our advocacy is based on building relationships.” We recognize some relationships are healthier than others when we enter them. Our intent as child Advocates is to encourage healing, bring a sense of hope, and provide nurturing support to our CASA children and families. I hope the month ahead brings you new opportunities to engage in one of these ways!

September kicks off our new program year (Sept 1, 2022 to Aug. 31, 2023). In the spirit of building your training hours bank early, we have several new trainings scheduled.

As our kids buckle down into the new school year, Kristy O’Neal (CASA Case Supervisor and Educational Lead) and Pamela Byrne (Advocate and Education Committee Member) will equip you with new skills in their Intro to Educational Advocacy training. See class offerings here.

Judge Amy Tucker swore in the new Advocate class in August 2022.

Our Family Engagement Manager Destin Hudek will host a Parent Advocacy training. We’ll learn tools to interact and engage with our parents, and we’ll discuss expectations and challenges you’ve faced. Sign up here.

Could you use a refresher on the Minimum Expectations and Cultural Competencies for Advocates? If so, join me to review required monthly and quarterly activities and court-related requirements. We’ll talk about what’s worked well for you and network with each other. Sign up here.

Advocates who haven’t had the opportunity to visit Angel Reach or BridgeWay Shelter (also known as Yes to Youth) can join us on Sept. 14 and Sept. 21, respectively. Use these links to sign up:  Angel Reach and BridgeWay.

We’re welcoming an incoming Advocate class Sept. 13. The group will meet each Tuesday for three weeks to navigate the curriculum together, combined with independent reading and homework. We look forward to having them ready to take their first case in October.

In addition to programs at CASA Child Advocates of Montgomery County, we encourage you to explore training opportunities sponsored by partners. Texas CASA is offering a two-part CFE For All virtual training across October and November. Dates are captured on our Events Calendar.

If you have an idea for a specific topic of training we can consider for our upcoming events calendar, please reach out to me. Thank you for participating in our classes, contributing to the growth of our organization, and enriching the lives of our CASA children. You are very much appreciated!
